Normally, no one will notice that the procedure was performed, after the first day. The day of treatment, you are a little inflamed and red for 2-8 hours. The next day, mineral makeup may be applied. Aquaphor or a heavy cream is necessary to keep your skin from hurting from dryness during the healing process. You will be totally healed in 7-10 days ready for another treatment in 2 weeks from the last Co2.

What is laser skin resurfacing?
The CO2 laser remains the superior tool for aesthetic skin resurfacing, ( a procedure designed to remove superficial wrinkles around the eyes, lips, forehead and cheeks), so apparent in aging skin. Patients with facial acne scars, enlarged pores, or sun-damaged skin with uneven pigmentation also make excellent candidates for this treatment.

At the time of your consultation, it is important to mention any history of viral infections, sensitivity to the sun, or prior skin treatments such as skin peels, dermabrasion or Accutane treatments, occurring within the past six months. You should also describe to you clinician, the level of improvement you are hoping to achieve. Then, mindful of your expectations, your clinician will review your medical history, and closely examine your skin type and pigmentation to determine if you are a potential candidate. Afterwards, you and your clinician can discuss your options, evaluate desired results, and decide on your best treatment protocol.

What makes fractional CO2 laser resurfacing the gold standard?
Fractional CO2 skin resurfacing is the only treatment that provides excellent results with minimal down time. “Fractional” means that only a percentage of the skin is affected by the laser. The untouched skin surrounding the laser micro beam contact stimulates rapid, painless healing with no lasting redness. What is treatment like?
After the area to be treated is thoroughly cleansed, a topical anesthetic ointment is applied and left on for 30 minutes. The fractional hand piece is then precisely and quickly passed over the contours of your skin. Ice is not necessary eliminate any discomfort. Actual treatment time can vary between 30-45 minutes depending upon the surface area treated. 2 Tylenol and 2 Advil is suggested to help with the pain if you have a very low pain tolerance 30 minutes prior to treatment. It is always safe to ask your physician about taking any medication or having any procedure.
Recovery
You leave with a small amount of inflammation and redness. This may hast 2 to 8 hours. Ice stops blood flow which inhibits the healing process. So, only use it if you happen to have a lot of inflammation. Some minimal scabbing will develop as the new skin surface is formed. (Normally only seen with a magnifier!) Aquaphor is recommended to keep the tissue moist during your unnoticed recovery time. (5-7 days). If you have a magnifying mirror, you will see squares of polka dots. After this, Cetaphil Cream is a recommended as a heavy moisturizer, a step below the Aquaphor. No bandages are required. Your skin may still retain a mild reddish appearance which will fade within a week or two. These visible traces of redness can be easily concealed with a little foundation and will completely disappear. Some patients have experienced temporary swelling in the tissues surrounding the eyes if you do not sleep inclined, in the first few days. You can expect to be comfortable returning to normal activity within 4-5 days. Caucasian, Hispanic and Asian decent may have this procedure. Those with darker skin types may run the risk of some pigmentation disturbances; so, the laser is not recommended for Middle Eastern skin types and darker (includes African American). We will NOT treat these skin types. The risk is too high!
Although initial results show a marked improvement, the full effect of your treatment is not apparent until a full 6 months after your procedure. The number of treatments will be discussed during your consultation. Treatments can be every 2 weeks. The Healing Cold Laser can be performed daily to accelerate your healing process. These dramatic results can be expected to last for a few years (depending on your lifestyle and sleep patterns), and can be maximized by following our recommendations: avoid sun exposure (or use a Medical grade sunscreen like Jan Marini) and be consistent in your application of the newer skin care products, designed to protect and stimulate your skin and help it to maintain a vital, youthful appearance.
